1998 Shelter Assistance Drive



This year we are collecting items for local Animal Shelters to be given in Pam's memory.

Items on the Shelters' wish list include:

  • Blankets and Towels
  • dog & Cat toys and treats
  • postage stamps
  • 35mm film
  • 8mm video camera
  • laptop computer
  • bleach
  • laundry detergent
  • paper towels
  • rabbit food
  • kitty litter
  • dog and cat food
  • trash bags (13 & 55 gallon sizes)
  • jars of all-meat baby food and boxes of baby rice cereal for orphaned animals
  • Film for Polaroid 600 camera
  • 8-1/2" x 11" colored copier paper
  • One year's membership or an Internet Service Provider (to set up a Web page)
  • Any pet supplies are appreciated

    The Results!

  • A donation was made to elementary schools for the purchase of books on animals.
  • Money and supplies were also donated to several animal shelters.




    Summary of accomplishments:

    1998:

  • On-going trap/spay/neuter release program: treated 38 feral animals
  • # Adoptions: 37
  • Working in conjunction with other local humane organizations, Sheltara Humane established a hotline for animal rescue and spay/neuter referrals; received approximately 250 calls
  • Held a collection fund raiser to benefit local animal shelters; raised over $6,000
  • Collected and distributed pallets of goods and supplies to various area shelters
  • Purchased and donated a library of books about animals and animal-related topics to a local elementary school
  • Awarded the first annual Pamela Bratsos Armstrong Memorial Scholarship to a Randolph High School student.
  • Initiated letter writing and petition campaigns which resulted in the local government appointing/joining a committee (RASCAL) to investigate the questionable conditions and procedures of the town dog pound (Randolph Animal Shelter Committee Action League)
