I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels.
I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage.
I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today.
Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.
I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.
So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors.
So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Hi Bonnetta,
Please excuse my interruption but my name is Alicia and I am a high school biology teacher. I am also the advisor for our school's chapter of the National Honor Society. The student's and myself have been discussing our next community service project and we have decided to volunteer at a local humane society. One of the things we will be doing is creating some resource pamphlets to have on hand for pet owners and future pet owners. I have asked them to come in with 3 resources to contribute to the pamphlets and one of them had your page (click here) listed.

I just wanted to take a second and say thank you for helping us out, your page will be a great addition to the material we plan to distribute at the humane society. I am very grateful for all the information and resources you took the time to post. I thought I could share a unique link one of my students came across. This page (click here) has a really good collection of resources related to traveling with pets and I thought you might want to add it as an another resource.

Thanks again for all your help, I really appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Alicia M

Thank you, Alicia! We appreciate your feedback. :)

Animals in need of your help and support:

Marcus is a neutered male tri-color tabby cat, medium hair, about 5 years old.
He purrs a lot but prefers not to be picked up. He is an indoor cat. He is the companion to Smokey.

Smokey is a neutered male, dark gray cat with yellow eyes, 10 years old.
He is a total sweetheart and is an indoor. He is the companion to Marcus.

Both cats are desperate for new home. They may be adopted together, or separately.
Please contact Debbie at DAnderson@GarageTekofNE.com or by phone 781-341-5100

One of our volunteers, Kathy Cassidy initiated a canned goods drive to collect food for farm animals at a rescue farm. The elderly goats are in need of some canned fruits and vegetables. Canned Vegetables: Peas, Carrots, String Beans, and Sweet Potatoes. Canned Fruit: Peaches, Pears and Fruit cocktail.
She dedicated many hours in delivery and pick up of donations.
Thanks to Kathy's efforts, Sheltara Humane Society was able to make a contribution of goods to the benefit of many animals.
If you would like to donate to this project, please contact Kathy at kathysgroomin@hotmail.com
